The Conjuration of the Sword

In my last post I tried to bring together a few traditions regarding the magical sword, including the ritual for consecrating it. I’ve delved into the subject more profoundly and found quite a few traditions. There are a few missing, like the ritual employed in the Negromancia of Roger Bacon, but i think we can get a good enough picture.
I will tabulate below the conjurations used by seven sources: The Veritable Keys of Solomon, The Grimoire of Turiel, Mss. Aubrey 24 of the Key of Solomon, the Mathers Edition, Duveen, Key of Knowledge, and Sloane 3847 (ascribed to Ptolemy the Grecian or Tozgrec).
For online editions of some of these texts, please go to Esoteric Archives (see links).

As we can see from the texts below, there are quite a number of differences. The Veritable Clavicle seems to be independent, so does the very recent Grimoire of Turiel.  The Mathers translation seems to rely heavily on  Aubrey MS. 24 from the Bodleian Library, called Zecorbeni sive Claviculae Salomonis libri IV in quibus I De Praeparementis, II De Experimentis, III De Pentaculis, IV De Artibus, written in 1674.

Now, the other three examples we have seem to ce consistent with one another: the Duveen printed edition and the Key of Knowledge, and the oldest manuscript of the key, Sloane 3847, cited also in our previous article.

I will base my future article upon this conjuration of the Key, which has the oldest elements, inluding names of God from Liber Juratus and the 72 names of Christ.

Aub 24
God of Abraham, God of Isaac, God of Jacob, cast your eyes upon your servant (N.) who wishes to battle on your behalf. Grant that your angels may assist me and that they do not abandon me in my enterprises, and through you, O Theos, Athanatos, Agios, Agios, Agios, Agios, Agios, Alpha & Omega, the Cassiel Angels, Sachiel, Samaël, Anaël, Raphaël, Michaël, and Gabriel come and grant me support in all my operations, that they never abandon me, and by the power of the art which you revealed to my father, grant that they are faithful and obedient to me through your name Tetragrammaton, Amen.

O Great God Who art the God of strength and fortitude and greatly to be feared, bless O Lord, this Instrument that it may be a terror unto the Enemy, and therewith I may fight with and overcome all phantasms and oppositions of the Enemy, through the influence and help of Thy most Holy Mighty Name, On, St. Agla, and in the Cross of Jesus Christ our only Lord. Amen.
Be thou blessed and consecrated in the Name of the Father, Son, and Holy Ghost.
